Danny Bryant – Whelans, Dublin – 12-06-2018

It’s always a privilege to see a great artist in an intimate venue, but when that artist is on top of their game and backed by a really talented band it’s just one of those special nights, and tonight is one of those nights, the Upstairs Venue in Whelans in Dublin is a very intimate venue and tonight we have the excellent Blues guitarist and singer Danny Bryant paying a visit while Touring his excellent new album Revelation, and having recently seen Danny at HRH Blues there was no doubt this was going to be a special show.

The set is a great mix of tracks from Revelation and some of some of Danny’s best work from previous albums, the emotion in his playing is sensational, add in the supreme talents of Stevie Watts on keyboards and a really tight rhythm section and the thing about this band is that everything is just so smooth, nothing frantic or over the top here, the solos just magic, the intros passed onto Stevie are fascinating and it all just creates a Set that’s a little spellbinding, and on top of that the guys are just so relaxed and humble with the crowd, it’s a joy to be a part of. Certainly not the biggest crowd this band will play to, but they are very appreciative of each other and there’s little doubt the band would have continued all night were they let, but what can you do these days with curfews.

Highlights on the night for me, aside from getting to see Danny and the guys playing so close up, were “Someday The Rains Will Fall”, the stunning “Isolate” and the beautifully haunting “Painkiller”, if you haven’t seen Danny play live before just do yourself a favour and get out and see him, he’s on a different level now, and I can’t wait to see him live again. Brilliant Set, brilliant night.
